39 – ShakespeaReTold: Macbeth (2005)

Macbeth the chef! It’s the 2005 BBC made-for-TV-movie ShakespeaReTold: Macbeth.

Sophie and Mitch watched the James McAvoy starring modernization of The Scottish Play – this time set in a Michelian-star restaurant. We discuss how it works (or doesn’t) as a Shakespearean adaptation. We also pitch our own modern food-related versions of the Bard’s work.

Make sure to follow us on TwitterInstagram, and Facebook to keep up with news, to join the discussion about food, and to check out all of our personal recipes – like Sophie’s Traditional Scottish Shortbread!

65 – Theatre Design w. Sofia Lukie

Theatrical designer Sofia Lukie is here to talk all about exactly that!

We break theatre design down into some broad categories – lighting, sound, set, costumes, projections – in order to discuss what makes these elements work & what makes them fall flat. We chat about our own personal design tendencies and how designers adapt for modern audiences; the ones who require more than just smoke machines and a spotlight to get their butts into the theatres’ seats.
