46 – Mostly Martha (2001)

We’re repeating ourselves this week with the 2001 German film Mostly Martha!

We discuss why this movie is so tasty & why the American remake No Reservations (2007) was so bland. We solve issues of adaptations, talk about what makes for compelling drama, and figure out how long it takes to drive from Hamburg to Italy.

18 – No Reservations (2007)

We watched 2007’s No Reservations and it was not what we expected.

Journey with us through this dramatic romantic-comedy based off a German romantic drama film called Mostly Martha (2001). Catherine Zeta-Jones, Aaron Eckhart, and Abigail Breslin star in a story about a stuck-in-her-ways chef, her new niece/daughter, and the Owen Wilson-ish guy who brings them together; also: Zeta-Jones’ sister is super dead & a child deals with the crushing realities of mortality. Clearly some things were lost in translation.
