Body Positivity w. Marina Power

Ep. 90

Marina Power is here to talk about bodies and how we feel & talk about them.

We discuss living within a fatphobic world, how that affects your state of mind and the state of your body. We talk about the difference between how you look and what you can do. We try to untangle the hydra of media depictions of bodies to see if that gets us any closer to an understanding of body diversity & pride in our own meatsacks.

Game of Thrones (Seasons 1-7) w. Jodie McRobbie & Dustin Meisinger

Ep. 88

Winter has come! Jodie McRobbie & Dustin Meisinger are here to gush about seasons 1-7 of Game of Thrones!

Who will win this decade-long series? What has been some of the best (or worst) parts of this journey so far? Who are our favourite characters and who can just get roasted by dragonfire? What about the BOOKS? So give this episode a listen as you build up hype for the final season of Game of Thrones.

CW: Game of Thrones involves lots of violence, sexual violence, and the like, so heads-up as we’re talking about the whole series.

The Running Man (1987) w. Joel Taras

Ep. 87

The 2019-set movies keep coming with the Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle The Running Man (1987). Joel Taras is here to talk about it!

We discuss how close we are to having a national deathmatch gameshow in our own timeline, because we’re really not that far off. Also lots of sweet Arnie-isms, quaint 80’s technology, and how – once again – scifi from the late 80’s really hit the nail on the head when it comes to assuming we’d be in a dystopia by now.

CW: sexual violence – Because it’s an 80’s action movie, there’s 2 scenes in particular that revolve around (the threat of) assault that we discuss.

Blade Runner (1982) w. Dustin Meisinger

Ep. 86

Dustin Meisinger returns to continue our breakdown of movies set in 2019; this week is the grandaddy of them all: Blade Runner (1982).

We talk about their trench coats and flying cars, we discuss the impracticalities of pyramidal skyscrapers, and we also try to decode the blurred line between human and robot (by asking a lot of questions about robot genitals). Also we didn’t watch 2049, so please ignore our ignorance.

CW: This episode involves discussions of consent & sexual assault, because Blade Runner is a film made in the 80’s.
