Planet Fitness’ “New Year’s Countdown” Ad

CHECK OUT THE AD HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3ld8QLGyr4&fbclid

Time for a New Year’s ad! The intrepid ad boys tear down a year-old Planet Fitness ad about the evils of the modern world and how everyone thinks you’re ugly and need to go to a gym basically all the time. We have some laughs and get serious as well in this one, so strap in cause it’s a rollercoaster.

Once we react, explain, and tear down the ad, we rebuild it, as usual. Fortunately, the issues in this ad are so glaring that it doesn’t take much to fix it.

The Speaking Tree: Animorphs #29

We’re back for more of The Speaking Tree! This time, as we look back on Animorphs #29: The Sickness, the book we talked about last week, we delve a bit deeper into the following questions:

How would you extract a single Yeerk from the Yeerk Pool if you had to act completely on your own?

How would you use morphing to get what you want out of a junior high school dance?

How would you use an eel morph in your own life for purely personal reasons?

74 – The Island (2005) w. Jodie McRobbie & Sophie Gareau-Brennan

The future is now! It’s 2019 so Jodie McRobbie & Sophie Gareau-Brennan join me to kick off the New Year with a movie set in this bright & bold future: 2005’s The Island.

We discuss all the intricacies of clandestine clone factories, the assumptions 2005 made about 2019, and the most important question raised by this film: can Ewan McGreggor look good in white?

42 – Waitress (2007)

Let’s start 2019 fresh with 2007’s Waitress.

Sophie & Mitch discuss all the complexities of this simple little film about a waitress with an abusive husband, imaginative pies, and a bun in the oven. We question the subjectivity of stories, wonder about the process of pie-making, and we explain the tragic meta-text surrounding this movie.
