The month of madness continues as we delve into Episodes 5 and 6 of the Animorphs TV Series: “Between Friends” and “The Message”! Get ready for some more great “morphing” animations and the words “Andalite cousin” being spoken like a hundred times.

We are once again joined by goofster Jarred McClure from the 2 Nerds in a Basement podcast! You can find more of his stuff at collectivelegacy.org/2nerdsinabasement or on instagram at @vanillajayy.

39 – Performance Art w. Julie Ferguson

Working artist Julie Ferguson is on the show to talk about performance art & the work that they do to support it.

We discuss how to manipulate audience engagement through movement & design; how one goes from having a weird idea to having a performance that people pay you money to see; and we talked all about how performance art, in particular, elicits complex conversations with(in) the audience.

So make sure to check out Julie’s Instagram & website for all of their NIUBOI work – past, present, and future.

38 – Veganism w. Devin Smith

Devin Smith is back and she’s here to talk all about veganism!

We discuss what drives someone to be a vegan, the semantics behind meat substitutes, and what simple changes could be done if you’re inspired to adjust your own lifestyle.

Make sure to send only vegan-appropriate GIFs & pics to Devin’s Twitter & Instagram; or to thank her for recommending Jonathan Safran Foer’s book Eating Animals.

TV Series: Episode 3 and 4

We’re back for more! We jump in to Episodes 3 and 4 of the Animorphs TV series: “Underground” and “On the Run”! These are the episodes where the gang infiltrates the cult–I mean totally believable front for the Yeerks–called The Sharing and also the ones where they lose the Andalite’s disc and Marco has to look for it in a Dumpster. Woops!

37 – Aggretsuko & Kawaii w. Sophie Gareau-Brennan

Sophie Gareau-Brennan is back and here to talk about the very definition of modern cuteness: Netflix’s Aggretsuko & the aesthetic culture of kawaii [neat & cute].

We give our backgrounds with anime, talk about how awesome Aggressive Retsuko is, and Sophie teaches Mitch all about the intertwined history of Sanrio and kawaii.

If you enjoyed Sophie & Mitch talking about things, then you’d probably also enjoy them talking about food on their podcast: We Watch Food. They’ve got an Instagram, a Twitter, and a Facebook.

36 – Roadhouse (1989) w. Joel Taras

Joel Taras is back for more in-depth movie analysis! Today’s subject of discussion: Roadhouse (1989) is a movie about cuckolding.

Specifically we break down how explicit this film is in its deconstruction & reassessment of masculinity, sexual fidelity, and the fame of local bartenders. This movie legitimately tackles these issues with some deftness, while also being a ridiculous 80’s action movie – it’s spectacular.

That all being said, despite this being a pretty light discussion of sexually charged/explicit subject matter from a silly movie, there is some content discussed within regarding sexual violence – so if that’s something you’d prefer to avoid, use your discretion with this episode & this movie. Content Warned.

The Can’t Can’t

CHECK OUT THE AD HERE: https://goo.gl/Wf9pDd

The ad boys are back in town, just like Tim Horton’s coffee! InADmissible tears down a trusted coffee brand’s terrible ad as they rebuild the “Tim Horton’s Coffee: The Musical” TV spot.

There’s not much to this ad other than snappy editing and terrible music so Quinn and Mikael push it to the extreme. We don’t want quirky coffee: we want classy coffee. Come on, corporations: keep your brands in check!

TV Series: Episode 1 and 2

The month of madness has begun! The Dork-Bajir Chronicles digs into the Animorphs television series by discussing the first two episodes titled “My Name is Jake.” For the rest of the month of May, our stalwart literary critics will be reviewing two episodes of the television series every week so strap in!

On top of all this, our regular hosts are joined by the one and only Jarred McClure, friend of the show and a confirmed non-reader of the Animorph books. Jarred will help our hosts stay on track this month and give them a much needed outside perspective.

You can find more of Jarred’s stuff at collectivelegacy.org/2nerdsinabasement or on instagram at @vanillajayy

X-2: X-Men United 2003

Me and Adam discuss X2! We also discuss where to look on screen when Rebecca Romijn is in frame, if Cerebro actually opens up and how Nightcrawler is the best character in the whole series.
All this and more this week on 2 Nerds in a Basement!

35 – Mushrooms w. Shawn Gray

Shawn Gray is back yet again! This time to break down those insane decomposers: mushrooms.

We talk about how to use them in your cooking, how they’re not quite vegetables nor animals, how they may have informed the development of the human species, and so much more! Seriously, we’ll be doing another episode on this because there was so much that we didn’t even talk about.

Make sure to check out Shawn’s group Edmonton Garbage Warriors to ensure the mushrooms aren’t the only ones cleaning things up out there this season!
